I always lived
with my family, my Dutch wife and my two children, in
places more close possible of nature. Accesses in an old farm above
a
small village practically surrounded by fields. For 20 years, in
Ollon, we have lived in a detached house in edge from forest, with
the
foot of the Alps. We were always surrounded of domestic animals and
wild: asses, sheep, goats, guinea fowls, geese, ducks, hens, dogs,
cats and naturally considering our insulation: fox, badgers, wild
boars, lynx etc. All that to tell you my interest for nature and the
animals. Thus my painting represents primarily animals, but in strange
situations because my first steps in painting were in surrealism.
I
outdistanced myself some gradually, but there remains something
nevertheless about it. The animals which I paint are generally
disproportionate and wander in a strange universe for them. I
endeavour to paint the whole in the most realistic possible way. And
it is this juxtaposition which should cause an emotion at the
spectator.
